SR Architects were appointed by Caring Homes, a national care home provider, to complete the construction phase of this new care home project in the village of Sonning Common, South Oxfordshire, north of Reading.  The project had been designed by another practice and was in construction when the operating contractor suffered from insolvency during the winter months leaving the partially completed structure open to the elements. 

SR Architects, with the Structural and M&E engineers, advised the client on procedures to stabilise the construction from further weather damage and established the extent of remedial work required to restart the construction.  New tendering and contract documentation was then produced in order to procure a new contractor for the project.  With construction recommenced, SR Architects have been acting as the client’s representative in an oversight capacity for the works.  In addition, SRA have been responsible for overseeing the discharge of outstanding planning conditions and liaison with NHBC building control. Finally, SRA have provided all the end of contract evaluation necessary to assure compliance of the construction with the documentation for handover to Caring Homes.

Final construction is expected to be complete in mid 2011.
