The design and purpose of the AMU seeks to provide an annex to the existing Accident and Emergency facility at Wexham Park Hospital with the intention of improving the flow of patients through A+E.

The restricted site and necessity to maintain the function of adjacent facilities during construction presented complex design parameters to be addressed. The solution provided a carefully ordered and contemporary insertion into the existing hospital fabric and incorporated a new acute multi-bedroom and waiting area under a top-lit roof light with improved and extended ancillary facilities appropriately linked back into the A+E department.
